Synopsis:

cover

Little Bromley is a small parish in the Tendring Hundred rural district of North East Essex.  The village had the typical features of a small farming community, being a church and rectory, Methodist chapel, manor and dower houses, public houses, Post Office Stores, blacksmith’s forge, primary school, various farm houses with accommodation for farm workers, and after the Great War a war memorial was erected.

Other than perhaps the wealthier landowners, the locals in general did not have the means to acquire photographs themselves, and a small village did not attract much attention from the press.  We are fortunate to have had a number of talented and prolific photographers working the area in the first half of the 20th Century.

This book reproduces a collection of 160 photographs of the village, being postcards together with a number of professional photos and personal snaps that have been kindly shared with the author over the last 20 years.  These are dated where possible and include some helpful explanatory notes.

All proceeds of book sales go towards the Little Bromley Bells Restoration Fund
