The history of Boxted Airfield

book launchWe were delighted to be invited to the 80th Anniversary of the opening of Boxted Airfield on 10th-11th June 2023.

One of the many events on a wonderful hot weekend was the launch of the new book "Boxted - Station 150: the story of an airfield". This had been over five years in the making, being originally suggested for the 75th anniversary. The project had stalled and the Boxted Airfield Historical Group urgently needed an editor and publisher to get the book ready. Due to my personal connection to the Airfield through Peter Potter, I was asked to help them out, and glad to be able to say "Yes of course."  I was sent all the material, mainly supplied by Richard Turner, the chairman and founder of the Museum (hence his credit as author).  The building of the airfield and the operational missions had largely been written up by another chap, and need a stiff edit and pictures to be processed and inserted. The second half of the book was only in note form and had to be written.  We found a friendly local printer, Lavenham Press, who needed two weeks (as it happens they did their production in nearer one week). So that gave me three weeks to do all my bit, something of a pressurised challenge.

But we got there, and everyone seems to be delighted with the finished result.
